Janine Mathée-Scott, PhD, CCC-SLP

Dr. Janine Mathée-Scott, PhD, CCC-SLP (she/her) is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and Postdoctoral Research Associate at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on understanding and addressing the challenges some children face in learning language, with a particular emphasis on children on the autism spectrum.

Dr. Mathée-Scott's key research questions include:

To answer these questions, Dr. Mathée-Scott's research program aims to identify the specific intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms contributing to language difficulties in children, particularly those on the autism spectrum. She is especially interested in the role of parent and caregiver input, as well as understanding how these underlying mechanisms can enhance clinical interventions. Her clinical experiences as a Speech-Language Pathologist deeply inform her research, which aims to bridge the gap between theoretical research and practical clinical applications.

Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation. Through teaching and mentoring, Dr. Mathée-Scott is committed to fostering a sense of belonging for her students in both research and clinical settings. She encourages her students to become collaborative, thoughtful, empathetic, critical-thinkers, equipped to serve their communities through evidence-based practice.
